Weight Loss 101 – Important Facts About Weight Loss Drugs

Recent studies have shown that more people are becoming overweight every year and this happens not only to adults but even to children who have just started school. Although there are many ways to lose weight, some still choose the ‘easy’ surgical option, whereas others opt for a healthy lifestyle by taking regular exercise and making changes to their diet. However, desperate people often make poor decisions and decide to take weight loss drugs such as Hoodia Gordonii as they are less expensive than surgery.

The drugs work by increasing the serotonin levels in the brain, making it believe that the stomach is already full, thereby, increasing the person’s metabolic rate. That was all well and good until the point where more research had concluded that there was an increased risk of heart valve disease and as a consequence the drugs were withdrawn. Not to be defeated though, manufacturers have introduced updated drugs, prescribed by doctors but the FDA approval process is slow.

These weight loss pills for quick weight loss have become popular and you can almost guarantee that you will know of someone who has tried them with success. To many it is a wonder drug and let’s be honest, if you could lose weight that easily without having to sacrifice anything in the process, you would take them as well. The weight loss drug manufacturers have spent a huge sum on research but this cannot be compared to the amount spent by consumers.

Weight control pills can be purchased either over-the-counter or prescribed by a doctor but even with the advances in medical technology they can still cause a lot of health related problems which can be unpleasant such as diarrhoea and vomiting.   You would need to read the user information for a full list of all the possible side effects.

There are many factors that could contribute to any problems you experience and these do not necessarily stop when you cease taking the pills. These effects can be equally unpleasant as the side effects occurring as a result of taking weight control pills.

Generally from the reports it would seem that the effectiveness of weight loss drugs is improved if they are combined with a regular exercise program and a low calorie diet. A diet that is full of foods such as oats, rice, cereals, potatoes, vegetables and fruits contain a good supply of vitamins, minerals and essential fibre.

Exercise can be done in whatever form suits the individual best but it should incorporate fat-burning exercises that will burn up any excess calories. The most efficient exercise should be regular and contain a mixture of cardiovascular (walking, swimming etc).
