Boot Camp Goal Setting

It’s time to get off the couch, put the remote down, and get started on a fitness program. The first thing you may be asking yourself is, where do I start?

It is highly recommened that before you start any fitness program, that you check with your doctor and get the go ahead. You made a good choice to start a program but start by seeing a doctor first.

Benefits of a Fitness Program

Starting a boot camp fitness program has a few great benefits: it helps you lose weight, you get better sleep, and it lowers your risk for chronic diseases, you have more energy, you increase your fitness level. Also, it gives you an overall great feeling of wellness and accomplishment that you’re doing something healthy for yourself.

Define Your Goals

After you have been given the OK from your doctor, next you need to define your goals. It’s helpful for you if you set two different kinds of fitness goals, one long-term and one short-term goal. A suggested idea for a long-term goal would look something like: 12 months from now you would lose 40 pounds of fat and replace it with lean muscle.Be certain to plan out the course of action to help get you to where you set the bar for your goals. A short-term goal, for increasing your fitness level, would be two or three months from now to run a 10k. If you have accompished some of your goals then make sure you reward yourself (but make it a non-food reward.).No doubt you will have earned it for sure!

Getting Started of Your Fitness Program

Now the time has come to pick your boot camp fitness program and get it started. There are a few options to choose from, but you want to choose something that produces successful results and is in close proximity to your work or home.Another thing to keep in mind is that you want an effective approach to your fitness so you can achieve your goals. Some boot camps are merely an aerobics class which won’t get you the results you are looking for.  Choose one that includes a heavy component of resistance training intervals so that you get the best of both worlds…strength training and cardio.

Listen to our body. If you feel pain or feel like you’re going to pass out, you need to stop. This is a an indication that you may be overdoing it a bit. Your exercise program should be challenging but not to the point of making you physically ill or at risk for potential injuries and burnout.
