Haha, I gained a freshman 10 when I moved from home. I hear ya... I'm in a profession that's very 'appearance oriented,' so I've gotta keep my weight in control!!!

I personally prepare a big bowl of salad and a big pot of soup and eat that for lunches for a couple days, mixing it up with canned chickpeas, corn, and flavoured tuna fish from a can. Cans of clear soup are great, too - though avoid Mr. Noodles/Pot Noodles because they are way too high in calories.

I keep Kavli or Ryvitas around, a jar of hummus, a jar of all-fruit jam, or a bowl of guacamole and eat two with spread as a snack with a glass of skim milk if I'm hungry.
Keep around lite microwave popcorn or a bag of baked tostitos with salsa.

I also keep a bag of frozen shrimp, pre-cleaned and cooked, and defrost those and cook a baked potato if I want a super-fast, filling, and super low cal meal. You can add some curry sauce to those shrimps and some frozen veg, and eat it with instant rice. Same for cooked chicken.

Sugarless, wholegrain cereal. Eat it. It's filling.

Switch to diet sodas/club soda/water, drink mixed drinks instead of beer (280 calories per pint!!!), skim milk or 1%, partly skimmed cheese, wholegrain diet bread, and oil spray rather than bottled oil for frying.

My 'guy friends' who don't cook usually stay thin by...
- Eating tons of pitas from a pita shop with lean chicken/turkey
- Tons of lean meat subs with no mayo and dressing OR cheese OR sauce, not all three, and whole wheat buns
- Grilled chicken sandwiches
- Clear soups
- Lean cuts of meat with baked potato and veg at sit down restaurants
- Shrimp or fish if available, but no mayo
References :
What has worked for me every since I went on my healthy lifestyle journey and fitness, is Kashi bars (fiber) and having things in small sandwich bags... it's seriously the best way...
References :
Hello Mark,
It sounds like you are lacking time and the effort needed to spend long hours lifting weights to get completly ripped. I would instead recommend that you look into what is called High Intensity Interval Training combined with a total easy and cheap diet plan. High Intensity traning you basically train by going all out in a certain pattern. It burns almost three times more calories than just running for the same amount of time. If you really commit to doing it three times a week you will easily burn the extra weight over a few months, and possibly alot quicker if you commit to a solid diet plan. I really like everything they talk about in this article about High Intensity training. http://weightloss.theinformationexperts.com/high-intensity-interval-training-guidelines/
References :
http://weightloss.theinformationexperts.com/high-intensity-interval-training-guidelines/

You can start with a balanced diet. Making a sandwich is easy, eating fruit is easy. Buying honey turkey and bread is also easy! As for lifting weights, this is probably the best way to go. Think of your muscles as a fat burning oven. The more you have the more fat you lose.

Deadlifts
Bench Press
Squats

Ask people around to teach you proper form, they will gladly help. They are easy to learn, even by watching others. On top of that you can watch youtube videos.
References :
i would say first off, stop eating mcdonalds, as good as it may taste. excercise/workout. eat in smaller proportions, like, instead of big breakfast, big lunch, big dinner, have small meals, and in between, snack on some healthy foods like vegetables. eating breakfast in general can help the metabolism i hear. guessing since you're in college, lots of beer/beer belly? haha. maybe slow down with that... even though it may be hard ;)
